Italian-Swiss experimental harpist and composer Kety Fusco released a new single on May 16 featuring a collaboration with rock performer Iggy Pop, who has previously selected and broadcasted Fusco’s music on BBC Radio. Available on all digital platforms, “SHE” is accompanied by visuals, described in a press release as “a futuristic videoclip made with AI [depicting] a world long abandoned, a drone hovers, desperately searching for traces of life, while fragile, ancient harmonies—like those of a harp—echo in the void.”
The track is the second single released from Fusco’s second studio album, BOHÈME, to be released September 19 on the Swiss label A Tree In A Field Records. BOHÈME was created in collaboration with the award-winning film composer Nicolas Rabaeus in Geneva. Every sound on the album originates from the harp, but the effect is altered by electronic sound manipulations, unconventional techniques, and underwater recordings (for which Fusco submerged herself in a pool while playing). “I destroyed the conventional idea of the harp,” Fusco says. “I sought to transform it into something wild and untamed, capable of expressing emotions that transcend tradition, projecting it toward a bolder, unknown future.”
A classically trained harpist with two master’s degrees in classical harp, Fusco says she seeks “to renew the musical language of the harp by blending tradition with innovation.” Her sound library Beyond the Harp, awarded “Best Database of the Month” by Musitech, aimed to expand creative possibilities for composers and producers. Fusco has performed worldwide on stages such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Swiss Federal Parliament, and the prestigious Euro Jazz Festival in Mexico. She has also written soundtracks for a film and a documentary set to be released in 2025. Fusco founded the Floating Notes Festival and established Floating Notes Records, the first label dedicated to experimental music in Italian-speaking Switzerland.
