Magen appointed harp professor at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin

April 3, 2023

The Hochschule für Musik (HfM) Hanns Eisler in Berlin has appointed Israeli harpist Sivan Magen as professor of harp, starting this summer. With this professorship, Magen succeeds Maria Graf, who has taught at HfM Hanns Eisler since 1997.

Born in Jerusalem in 1980, Sivan Magen is a lecturer at international master classes and jury member at harp competitions worldwide. In 2017 he taught as a visiting professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieure in Paris, and since the beginning of the 2017/18 season he has been principal harpist of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Helsinki. Sivan Magen studied at the Paris Conservatoire and the Juilliard School in New York. Magen became the first Israeli winner of the prestigious International Harp Contest in Israel in 2006.

As a soloist, Sivan Magen has performed in the USA, South America, Europe, and Israel. Magen has two solo albums with Linn Records, both reviewed by Harp Column: Fantasien and French Reflections. An avid chamber musician, he is a founding member of the Israeli Chamber Project and Trio Tre Voci (with flutist Marina Piccinini and violist Kim Kashkashian).
