MemberI’m in the UK so that wouldn’t be very practical for me. I’m going to be getting one from Clive Morley harps. I can drive there and pick one up which is great because it means I can try the various harps out. The only problem is that I’m hideously rusty right now so I can’t really give any harp much of a run for its money.
Thanks for the link, I’ll have to investigate that 🙂

MemberThe Ravenna 34 is out of my price range at the moment.
I have tried the Ravenna 24. It has a lovely sound but I can’t really judge if I’d miss the extra strings. I did enjoy playing it though. Then again, I love the Hempson. :S
As for what music, I like a bit of a variety. I don’t think I’m going to be playing a lot of complex classical pieces though. I would like to learn a few more modern pieces, covers etc though and it could be a problem for that :/

MemberBoth of these are really useful thankyou. Deb L.: It’s nice to hear from someone who’s a casual player.
So the lack of range really makes a lot of difference then? I’m still very much a beginner and thus far haven’t made that much use of the lower range.

MemberHiya,
While we’re on the subject of humidity, I was wondering if I could ask a question.
My current house suffers from damp a lot in the winter and so I have to occasionally use a dehumidifier. Is there any danger of this being an issue for the harp?

MemberSorry for the slow reply. I’ve got gremlins in my internet!
Wow thank you! SO many suggestions!
Music-wise, I’m fairly open. to different things. If I like a song then I like it regardless of genre.Sylvia Wood seems to have come up a lot so I think I’ll start by investigating there. When I have more reliable internet again I’m going to have a look through all these titles.
thanks again

MemberI’m at uni at the moment which means that I’m 200 miles away from my teacher. I’ve been learning new pieces to practice and I wanted a bit of a challenge, not to mention the pleasure of learning a piece that I enjoy.
The harp is actually my first instrument although I have some background music knowledge from keyboards at school and singing lessons. I probably could pick out a tune by ear but it would be slow, painful and not have much finesse sadly.

MemberThanks. I’ll have an attempt at doing it with the chords but I suspect that I might not get too far. I’ll see how I get on.

Thanks for the advice on the strnings

MemberWell the pink one has been sold anyway. I’m now hiring one that’s the same though (although in a rather nicer mahogany). Now to get learning!
Thanks for the help.

MemberSorry double post..Tayce’s message came through after I’d responded
I’m in WIltshire so Clive Morely is not too far away from me. I think I’ll head on over so I can try a few out maybe tomorrow or on Monday. My plan is to Rent short-term to see how I get on with playing the harp then look into buying one if it goes well. I’m keeping an eye out for second hand because I can’t really afford a new one. I did see the pink harp.

MemberI think I might go for Clive Morely Harps. They do the dusty strings range, they have good rent rates and aren’t too far away from me so I can travel over there and have a look as well as a bit of a go.
Thanks guys
