Good idea to ask the person who does my regulations. I live in southeastern Pennsylvania, where the summers are very humid. However, the indoor air in winter is quite dry. I have an evaporative humidifier set up in the room, which seems to keep the humidity level around 50%.

Mine is unusual but very simple. I didn’t want regular card stock, so I bought a bunch of place cards for weddings….they unfold. I hand lettered each one in calligraphy. On the front, it just says my name, and Harpist. Inside, my contact information. That’s all! They look great and are uncluttered and unique. This works for me; some might want to include more information.

There is a very lengthy thread, called “The Perfect Harp Car”, on the Professional Harpists forum. Perhaps that would be helpful to you. Good luck,

    Hi Sam,
I am sure about the serial number and date of purchase, but I was also not the original owner, so perhaps the harp was older than brand-new when purchased.

My 17 is #13319, and was bought new in 1999.

Wow, Dave….what a jerk that guy is. He’s not going to find anyone else on such short notice, and not many of us can nail something complex on an initial run-thru, sight unseen. (I certainly can’t). So he will be harp-less, which serves him right. Don’t let the turkeys get you down!

Will your daughter be playing in ensembles? An extended board might be preferable for orchestral playing, as the sound will “cut through” better.

I’ve heard them referred to as anchors, splines, toggles, and slugs!

It will continue to heal for a long, long time after the cast has come off; physical therapy will definitely help. Make sure the doctor knows you are a musician. When I broke my right hand a few years ago, I actually really enjoyed doing some practicing with my left hand only. It was amazing the musical discoveries I made that I wouldn’t have if I had been using both hands! Best wishes to you for a full and complete recovery.

Jennifer, that’s another interesting solution, one I had not considered. When buying a harp from someone who had purchased it directly from Lyon&Healy or another builder, I doubt the builder would get involved in its resale. Might work, though, in the situation you described where the harp was bought through a small dealer.

Carl, I am delighted that you responded, because I was actually considering phoning you to ask this question! I would have no problem buying through a dealer, from a builder, from a local person, or from someone well-known in the harp world. The questions come when buying from an unknown individual seller in a remote part of the country or world. (Though on the one occasion I did this, it worked out beautifully). I tend to trust my instincts about people, but instincts are not infallible. The same could apply to buying a car in this manner, or anything expensive really. Without the benefit of an intermediary or the protections that are built into a process such as making a purchase on ebay, I just wonder what people have done to protect themselves, whether on the selling or buying end of the transaction. It is grim indeed to have to deal with being scammed. I’m glad you re-connected with your lost harp. What a chilling story, glad it ended well!

The part is not too difficult. You will have fun with this I think!

It’s a piano piece, but Debussy’s “The Sunken Cathedral” is very watery! Salzedo made a transcription for multiple harps…don’t know if there’s a solo harp transcription out there…
