How much would the current rate be for weddings / functions? I see this post is from a few years back. Some people in my area even feel that a fee of $200 is too expensive incl travel distance of about 50 miles…

Don’t know if people also charge more for lever harps vs. pedal harps as my teacher who is a professional orchestral harpist with a pedal harp would include a mortgage fee such as harp handling and harp insurance etc. in their fee

Alright thanks for the advice. I detuned the harp 3 semitones over a period of a few days and covered the harp with its cover, pedals up in an enclosed room.

Hello Biagio, thanks for your advice, alright I will see what can be done. We thought of packing it in a carton box with bubble wrap, but it can be damaged. And the harps value is nearly the same as a round trip flight with an extra seat booked.

Hello Alison, do you know how does it work if I ship it the day before I depart? The airline (Emirates) only mentions to take it with my luggage in a hard case or book a second flightseat? Thanks

    Hi Balfour,

Alright thanks, I’ll take a look at it. I’m going next week to view the harp and has got a good feeling about it ^^.

A huge thanks so much to Catherine and Balfour for your insight. It seems then that they are a rare harp to find as well. If they were new at $12000 shipped to the other side of the world and sold at $9200 fully serviced, 14 years old, is that a good deal?

Thank You Gretchen, I decided to pass on this harp instead, even though it was a good deal for such a large harp ^^

Ah are vertical cracks rather something to be concerned about? Don’t want the paw-paw to hit the fan with a broken soundboard later on.

I checked the neck, as in the photo, it leans quite a lot to the left, yet when I tested the pedal for a good 40 minutes straight, the discs were near perfectly only for a total handful in the top 0st, 1st and 2nd octaves that had off intonation. The harp needs some new strings as well as they get out of tune within 20 – 30 minutes of playing in an enclosed room.

The harp’s pedals are very squeaky and felt stuck when moving from natural to sharp, therefore it will only benefit for practicing exams at home indoors and not at weddings too.

    Hi,
yes, we’ve got a harp shop in a city nearby, they bring a Lyon and Healy & Salvi harp technician that comes here every two years, he is able to look at it, but if something goes wrong along the way, the risk can become serious.

The crack is horizontal, on the right hand side (left in the picture), right at the bass of the soundboard.

Thank you for your advice. We do get a technician every two years, but works on your L&L and Salvi, Venus, Aoyama type of harps.
The harp is located in Durban South Africa, no other pedal harps are available unless you buy brand new from the shop.
