For playback when practicing I use my iPhone Voice Memo. I use inexpensive amps to listen. Recently friends gave a piano concert and at last minute wanted to record it. I put my iPhone on my lap – the quality was amazing. I then synced to iTunes – then trimmed and split the pieces and then made a CD. I split the individual songs so can send them via email. I was very pleased and surprised with my efforts.

Thanks for link to Lyra/International Music service. On their site: We are only distributor of the Savarez Alliance KF harp strings in the United States. However, I have had some luck at Virginia Harp Center which happened to have the strings I needed at the time. (I live in the US.) The CF strings are generous in length and can get 2-3 strings from them. The only strings I have broken (6 years and daily use) have been the Cs and Fs above middle C. The color wears off and I use Dyken layout dye – and then that rubs off 🙁

Where is best place to buy your carbon fiber strings – Alliance? I’ve ordered from International Harp. Last time they were waiting for shipment from France.

I use a beautiful arrangement which was arranged by Lorie Line for the piano. It has a full sound – lots of arpeggios. Love it!

In two weeks I am playing in a concert. My teacher does most of the arranging and would like to share any of his arrangements for the asking. Three of my favorites of his many compositions/arrangements:
    1. Suite for Mother Goose for Toy Piano and Harp. I am playing three in the suite: The Muffin Man, Three Blind Mice and HIckory Dickory Dock. We painted a toy piano bright red and my teacher built a stand for it. This requires a pedal harp and a warning – those three mice are running all over the place. These 3 are in a PDF file and easy for me to send if you’d like to see them. There are over 10 in the suite.
    2. Adagietto by Damase – a flutist is playing melody with me and my teacher wrote a lovely interlude for flute and harp – a contemporary feel. It would make a nice piece to play any time of the year. We are opening the concert with this.
    3. Variations on What Child Is This for flute, harp and piano. The flute part was written specifically for a very gifted flutist. Last year we played this in a concert and the flutist liked it so well we wanted to repeat it this year.
My teacher, Ron Canipe, is not interested in compensation but would like to see his work performed.

    A compromise has been reached.
For a recital/program in Dec. we’ll be doing the second movement, only.
My teacher told me to put it completely away and we’ll bring out the second movement then. Salzedo often had his students work on a piece and put it away for a year and then come back refreshed. Whew!!! It was really getting to me and you were all a big help for calmness returning.

These replies were so insightful and I thank you.
So -as of today – I am putting the Mozart Concerto on the shelf for a rest. I will bring it back in a month or, definitely, by January.
The flutist with whom I was practicing – you read accurately between the lines – my teacher and pianist and I all had bad vibes after last week’s first practice. I do have a fabulous flutist with whom I have previously worked and not available during the daytime so now, I’ll only be working with him when he is available.
Whew! Thanks for saving my sanity and the love of this music.

    It has been found!!!

Mark Palkovic is Head Librarian at the College-Conservatory of Music Library, University of Cincinnati Libraries. He has a copy. My harp teacher who has been looking for this talked with Mark who suggested to request it through the university music library. That has been done but it hasn’t yet arrived.

The piece by Dana Suesse was written for Casper Reardon, a jazz harpist in the 1930s. He was a student of Carols Salzedo and the work has not been published.

I’m new to the list as of today.

Two years ago a teacher in town heard me play and bluntly told me I had lost any good technique, if I ever had any! So I told him to “show me!” He has now declared I have moved from dilettante to professional – at 77. I have had two major recitals and on my music stand I’m working on Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp. He told me I need to get a portfolio of “art” music prepared. Trying to get Glinka Nocturne ready for next recital but it is a slow go. Also Durand’s Chaconne, Bach’s Siciliano, and Damase’s Adagietto. My teacher wrote a middle section for flute and harp to lengthen it. He tells me I should go through this “portfolio” at least every other day. He is also writing cadenzas which he thinks are more musical for each of three movements of the Mozart concerto. He keeps me very busy.
