KeymasterHi, Karen. Thanks for your feedback on the music review in the July/August issue of Harp Column. We appreciate hearing from our readers. The music selected for the review in each issue of the magazine is chosen by our music review editor Jan Jennings from the pool of music that is submitted for review by arrangers, composers, and publishers. I can assure you that favoritism is absolutely not a factor in the music chosen for review. Our music review editor tries to choose titles that fit a theme for each issue. This issue’s review focused on hymn arrangements, our last review centered on pop arrangements, the review before that featured technical and fundamental materials—so different music genres are represented throughout the year. I hope this helps explain a bit about what goes into the planning behind the music review you read in each issue.

KeymasterYes, you can read our interview with Elizabeth Fontan Binoche in the Jan/Feb 2008 issue of Harp Column—she definitely has an amazing memory and told some great stories about her time studying with Marcel Tournier. Look for it online soon for subscribers, but if you just can’t wait that long to read it, you can order a back issue by contacting @[[carol-ringenwald:User:Carol Ringenwald]].

KeymasterGreat idea, Diane. Definitely would want to keep student-teacher communication on the practice journal private, though. On an unrelated note, @[[hugh-brock:User:Hugh Brock]], are we not set up to receive notifications when we are tagged in a post? I didn’t get a notification when @[[diane-michaels:User:Diane Michaels]] tagged me in this post.

KeymasterJust to clarify post No. 10, “she” refers to Marjo Breusing passing away in 2004, not any of the other harpists mentioned in this thread.

KeymasterThe Practical Harpist’s Guide is a special promotion mailed to new subscribers to Harp Column. Don’t worry, though, you didn’t miss anything if you are already a subscriber. It just contains a few articles from previous issues.

KeymasterFor those looking for a station wagon, you might try the Mazda 6 wagon. In the Harp Column’s last harpmobile review in 2004, we fit a full size pedal harp in the back. At first glance the wagon looks so small you wouldn’t guess a harp would fit, but it did–with some room to spare!

KeymasterAs Kim mentioned, I am also the proud owner of an ’05 Honda Odyssey, and I love it!! The Odyssey is definitely not cheap, but so far I think it has been worth every penny. Before this I had a Chevy Blazer which I really liked, but after getting smashed between two cars on the interstate, I decided to reconsider flat-loading. Had my harp been in the car at the time of the accident, the column would have made a harp skewer out of me. I could not believe how easy column loading was–and how easy it is on your back. Right after I got the minivan, a highly-respected harp technician with years of experience who goes by the nickname “Harp Doc” (I will leave Peter Wiley’s real name out of this so as not to embarrass him), helped me column load my harp in the Odyssey after regulating my harp. I asked him if column loading was detrimental to the harp, and he said it was perfectly fine and was not hard on the harp.
