ParticipantJim Cowgill from VA Harp Center loves his. I don’t know that any of the Mazdas get very good mileage, though. The 6 sure doesn’t.

Hey, fellow Matrix owners! I’d be interested in knowing what your actual mpg # is. When I took my 4WD in to my mechanic to be blessed before I bought it, the mechanic warned me that the gas mileage wouldn’t be as good on an AWD, but by that time I was deeply into the sales process and really liking the car. I am sort of disappointed by the mileage (24-26 mpg)…but I do love the car. It has great cargo space, holds a ton of stuff, and it’s fun to drive. (Has electric side mirror controls, too!)Lisa

ParticipantAround 25/26 mpg sounds about right.

ParticipantWho, me? Thanks, LInda, but I always load my own harp without putting the passenger’s seat down. I need that to strap in my bench, when traveling with a concert grand. For the lever harp I use a folding bench that can slip in behind the passenger seat.
Or did you mean Gloria rather than me? Yes, that might work for her if the seat will go down all the way.

Participantyes Linda, I think you might be referring to me..I drive an ’03 Camry..and have folded the seats down, forward, backward….you name it..and still cannot get my big Dusty 36S w/case, in that car….my harpmobile of choice now is exclusively the Ford Explorer..
Happy harping!

ParticipantI have a Daphne 44. It’s 68.5″/175cm tall. I see a couple of people have mentioned being able to get a semi-grand into a Toyta Matrix (AKA Corolla here in Oz). How on earth do you do it? I need to buy a car soon and I’d rather not have to buy a huge station wagon, they’re a pain to park and are petrol-hungry, and are expensive! (And the smaller Subaru Liberty and Mazda 6 wagons are just as expensive…)

ParticipantI have a Ford Explorer and love it for harp moving. I had a Taurus wagon before that which was actually easier to load a harp into. Funny story…I move my harp more often than I have three or more people in my car, so I usually leave the back seats folded down, and lots of old blankets laid out for extra cushioning. One day, I overheard a co-worker say “Is Andy doing okay? I think he’s sleeping in his car!”

ParticipantThe trick is to put the passenger’s seat forward and make sure the back isn’t reclining too much. Then just load normally and swing the base of the harp to the right once it’s in.
This works fine if your dolly loads separately from the harp. If you have the kind of rig, like a Hartwig, where the harp stays on the cart, it most likely won’t work at all.

ParticipantYou can do it, but don’t take our word for it — take your harp to the Toyota dealer and try it yourself.

MemberCarl Swanson shows in his book a perfect car,i saw one looks like it in our street, i thought it will be the carl i will deal with to move my harp every time i need, and asked about it,so they told me that its for moving dead people and for there last ride,so i am afraid to move my harp by it.
