Sharon Ann (Wilson) Watson passed away on July 11, 2025, at age 89. She is survived by her children Celia Perillo (Luigi), David Watson, and Rosemary Coleman (Richie); grandchildren Steven (Barbara), Jenny (Kaley), Michela, Luca, Julia (Michael), and Dexter; and great-grandchildren Cloei and Benjamin.
Born at home on a farm in Kokomo, Indiana, on June 18, 1936, Sharon was musical from the start—or as she would say, “She came out humming.” With master’s degrees in piano, organ, and harp (American Conservatory of Music, Chicago), she was a sought-after musician in Highland, Ind.; West Palm Beach and Vero Beach, Fla.; Carlsbad, Calif.; and finally Fishers, Ind. Weddings, concerts, church services, private events, and teaching filled her calendar. She left an indelible impact on thousands of students—some now in their 60s and 70s still speak of her influence. Sharon taught until just weeks before her passing and adored her final church home, Northwood Christian. Her extensive harp, flute, cello, and violin arrangements are known worldwide. Sharon will also be remembered for her dynamic self-expression, sense of humor, and gift for making others feel special. After her passing, a bank teller she had not seen in over a decade wrote, “Your mom was the kindest person I have ever met. She came twice a week to my bank window and talked to me like I was an old friend. She told me all about her family and her music. She brought me Christmas gifts and remembered my birthday. The world is a dimmer and quieter place without her.”
She was an extraordinary human—friend, neighbor, mother, and grandmother—whose ripples of generosity and care will be deeply missed.
Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in early 2025, Sharon met her illness with immense courage and grace. All three children were with her when she was called home.
In her honor, donations may be made to: Arts With A Purpose (an Indianapolis-based organization creating change through the arts), or Juvenile Diabetes Research (two of Sharon’s grandkids are living with Type 1), or Northwood Christian Church’s food pantry program. She generously donated her body to the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University. A memorial service will be held at noon on Sept. 13 at Northwood Christian Church in Indianapolis.
