Spanish harpist Mari Lola Higueras died on March 30, 2026. She was born in Madrid on Aug. 3, 1930, to sculptor Jacinto Higueras and violinist María Dolores Domínguez Palatín.

“Mari Lola Higueras was the Spanish harpist for whom Jesús Guridi composed his Viejo Zortzico and Joaquín Turina his Tema con variaciones for harp and piano, among other pieces written by other Spanish composers.
“After finishing her harp studies with Luisa Menárguez in Madrid, she was a private student with Lily Laskine in Paris and Marcel Grandjany in the U.S.
“She developed a fleeting but intense career, and after decades away from the music profession in recent years she made headlines again for her contribution to the world of the harp and the recovery of historical recordings of the works dedicated to her.”
