Chicago Harp Quartet LIVE Radio Broadcast Concert

April 29, 2014

—by Marguerite Lynn Williams

The Chicago Harp Quartet is excited to be presenting our first LIVE from WFMT radio broadcast tonight, April 28 from 8-10pm CST.

We will be performing a program of works from our debut CD set to be released on May 29th and will include the preview performance of Bernard Andres’ Soirées d’été, which was commissioned by the Chicago Harp Quartet. The world premiere of Soirées d’été will be at the Lyon & Healy 150th Birthday Festival in June.

The past four days have been chocked full of rehearsals for the four of us, working on details of the program and adjusting arrangements. Not only will we be performing works originally written for harp quartet (Andres and Patterson), but also a new arrangement the Quartet did just a few weeks ago of the Mcheledov Variations on a Theme of Paganini. This particular piece is really fun to perform since there are so many “dueling harps” moments where we get to challenge each other musically, making for a very fun performance. Another highlight of the concert will be Philip Glass’ Rubric (from Glass Works), which was approved by Mr. Glass himself! The work is intense in nature and thrilling to listen to.

The performance is in preparation for our participation in the Quarter Finals of the 2014 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition on May 9th.

You can listen live on www.wfmt.com.
