Chen-Yu Huang has been appointed Principal Harpist with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. The audition was held in early September and required three rounds before the panel selected Huang. She will begin her tenure with the AASO performing Ernest Bloch’s Schelomo and Duke Ellington’s Three Black Kings on the symphony’s Oct. 21 concert.
“I just moved to Michigan last year and am very excited to have this opportunity to get more connected to the local musical scene.” Huang says of her new appointment. “I’m also especially looking forward to the educational series and side-by-side performances with local high school students.”
Huang is also assistant professor of harp at Michigan State University and on harp faculty of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. As a performer, she has been principal harpist of Illinois Symphony since 2012 and regularly tours with her chamber ensemble, the Formosa Trio. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in piano performance from National Taiwan Normal University and a Master of Music, Artist Diploma, and Doctoral of Musical Arts from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
