    After playing on a borrowed harp for the last six months, I finally

    bought one. (26 Blevin?s Eden) During my search I learned more about

    harp playing ? and I?m beginning to wonder if my harp teacher is not

    so good.

    Having studied piano for 15 years I know the importance of hand

    position.

    I can’t believe this person is teaching harp, or any instrument for that matter. The way a

    harpist holds his or her hands has EVERYTHING to do with EVERYTHING. Don’t pass go,

    don’t collect your $200, just get away and find a real teacher. With regard to the carpel

    tunnel, I have suffered with that in both hands for several years, fighting desperately the

    need for surgery. I finally gave in to it when I could no longer play. Within one month of

    surgery I was able to play a recital and while it was tough getting to that point so quickly, I

    am very thankful that I did it.

    Immediately following surgery I had several sessions with Alexander Technique teachers

    who have completely resussitated my hand position, teaching me how to relax and play

    with ease. Please get some help with your hands, shoulders, neck and sitting position in

    order to avoid any further damage to your hands. I now play better and with more pleasure

    than ever. Good luck!

    I have to disagree somewhat with the previous poster.

    I suspect that no one really knows exactly how to prevent/ameliorate carpel tunnel issues.

    I have been stopping in to read messages from time to time and now I need to getting around to saying thank you to everyone who posted.

    I did end up switching teachers.
