I’ve just had my first harp lesson, and I am truly impressed by the dedication of music teachers. My teacher, Chelsea Spence of Fort Collins, Colorado, CAME TO MY HOUSE, on less than one day’s notice, to make sure that I had the right finger technique before she left. WOW! She is also a very nice person, patient, and enthusiastic.

I’d like to give a shout out to my long time piano teacher, Mrs. Pearson of Bellbrook, Ohio, who treated me like family from the time that I began lessons, at the age of six, to the day that I went off to college as a piano major. The piano saved my life, and I am grateful.

Teachers don’t get enough praise. It’s a tough job being able to balance encouragement and challenge. It’s also tough to do all of the other jobs that teaching really involves: friend, mentor, parent, drill sargent and therapist among them.

    Thank you so much!

My love of music was inspired by my elementary school music teacher, Mr. Blakely. The nicest guy you would have ever met. Always with a joke or a smile and he loved teaching kids. Sadly he died a while ago and he had to struggle with disability most of his life due to polio, but despite that he had such an incredibly positive outlook.

My first harp teacher, Mrs. Ruth Berman-Harris, I consider one of the best teachers I have ever had regardless of the subject. She had the perfect balance of demanding, encouraging, and patience. Always open to new ideas and not afraid to actually listen to her students, but also a wealth of knowledge and eager to share it. I consider it great fortune that I began learning the harp with her.
