Rachel, check out two harp kits on http://www.harpkit.com: the Voyageur 33 string, on sale now at $850., and the Smart Harp 29 string at $325. I grant that these will cost some time to put together but a 12-year-old could do this, in my opinion, with some help. The experience would be valuable to her; she would realize that this may not be her ultimate instrument but with patience and practice of her harp skills she could eventually afford a better harp. This maker has a very good reputation.

I have the Voyageur that I built from a kit with the help of my husband. I also have built one of the Smart Harps. Musicmaker’s has wonderful instruments at reasonable prices. The Voyageur is not something I recommend a 12-year old to attempt to build, however. There was a lot of sanding, some trimwork and fitting to do that is best handled by someone older and/or with previous wood-working experience.

This is not the place to carpet bomb the harp world with free advertising. If anything, your intrusive way of promoting this book has turned me off to it.

I for one don’t have a problem with it, I think it’s great you have written books and have gotten such a nice review. Many of us on this forum brag about our harps, performances, skills, etc. – why not a book review? It’s not like you are taking orders over this forum or even advertising the price. I’m sorry you were attacked for sharing something that should be celebrated. Best of luck to you and your new book

Karen, I wouldn’t call what I commented an attack. I see this quite often here where things are multi-posted on 3 or 4 different topic areas. It’s just not necessary and gets to be a minor annoyance when it happens over and over again.
