Have you introduced any preteen students to this site in order to have them keep a practice journal you can view and comment on between lessons? Or plan on it? I’m thinking about it with one student but still am on the fence. Right now, the only way I can see keeping one private is for the student to avoid friending anyone besides me. Any thoughts to share?October 10, 2012 at 7:26 pm #82380kimberly-rowe
KeymasterDiane: This is a great idea. I think @[[susan-bennett-brady:User:Susan Bennett Brady]] wants to do it with her college students as well. It is on @[[hugh-brock:User:Hugh Brock]]’s list to make the journals private, or viewable to specific people. We need to implement “groups” to make it happen….hopefully within the next few weeks—oh Hugh?

SpectatorGreat! We’ll hold off in eager anticipation.

ParticipantYeah. The idea would be that you would have a separate, presumably smaller set of people who you specifically allow to see *your* practice journal.
It’s interesting b/c we originally were thinking about college students or young adults who might be likely to be working on a piece and want their friends to be able to see and comment on that. However if it’s going to be a real journal, I can certainly imagine a case where you really only want to share it with your teacher — and this is something we would also like to support.
The good news is the springs and levers to make this happen are all in place. It’s just a matter of me creating a user interface people will understand to manage it :). Or, as my colleagues say, “a mere matter of programming.”
Sigh…

KeymasterGreat idea, Diane. Definitely would want to keep student-teacher communication on the practice journal private, though. On an unrelated note, @[[hugh-brock:User:Hugh Brock]], are we not set up to receive notifications when we are tagged in a post? I didn’t get a notification when @[[diane-michaels:User:Diane Michaels]] tagged me in this post.

ParticipantHmm… something shows up on your Studio feed, but no, no notification is created. I should fix that.

ParticipantSo are the journals viewable by others? Maybe on your fiends list? I just told my teacher about it but didn’t consider how she would see the journal.

KeymasterRight now your practice journal is viewable by all your friends. It is on our to-do list to give you the ability to create groups for private viewing between whoever you designate (student and teacher for example). @[[hugh-brock:User:Hugh Brock]] can you weigh in?
