I’m thinking of purchasing a used lever harp… it’s about 30 years old. What do I need to look for in terms of problems it might have? Any other down sides to an older harp? It’s a good quality harp.

Money is limited… would you buy an older, good quality harp, or a new, cheaper quality harp?

    Thank you!

    Stacy,

The problem is that I don’t know of any harp stores in my area, nor really any harp players! I live in NW Arkansas… kind of a ways from anything harp related. I’m not sure WHAT to look for, problem wise… LOL

It’s best if you can help from a harpist but if you can’t then look for bowing in the pillar. The tension of the strings will eventually pull the neck toward the soundboard.

What kind of harp is it, and what kind of levers are on it?

Also, has it been in use recently, or has it been just sitting there for years and years?

Well, I ended up getting a 17 year old Heartland Lyra, 25 string harp, fully levered. It’s been taken care of, and seems very soundly built. Everything square and tight on it! It will be a good learning instrument for me!
