ParticipantI’m going to be shipping my Salvi Daphne EX from Las Vegas to Boston, but I don’t have a case!

ParticipantWhen you’re shipping, they charge by weight, and those harp trunks are heavy. Consider ordering a shipping box from Lyon & Healy like they use for delivering harps. It has padding in there to cushion the harp and weighs less than a trunk, plus you won’t have to pay to return the trunk afterward. You can recycle the materials.

ParticipantSee if you can find someone who does foam packing. When my harp was shipped, the packing was unbelievable- it was like a cocoon. My harp also had to endure being packed for a long time. I think the foam is blown in around the instrument. See if you can find out from USPS or Fedex.

ParticipantI am tring to figure out how to get the Salvi Symphonietta Harp and the Girl to College from CT to Iowa. She will probably drive it in the car…….but
Here is what I have so far: The approximate costs July 2010 are: $150 purchase a cardboard box Harp Carton from Lyon & Healy, Have it shipped – empty – to us $285- Pack up our harp and ship it c/o Admiral Shipping Co ( alg?) $325-
That comes to an estimated grand total of $760-!!
One snag is that it would be difficult to find a place to save the box. I remember that when we bought the harp the box was as big as our refridgerator! (and would not fit in a dorm room, that’s for sure!). We kept it until it was taking up too much room even in the shed. That box was the biggest box I have ever seen! …Also there is the Dolly and the Bench….
I Would like to hear more about alternate boxes and foam – do you go to ‘package plus’?
I am also looking in the forum for Harp vehicles…….suitable for a girl with a taller harp, plus dollly & bench and 6 foot tall dad.
Thanks everybody – cmd

ParticipantIf there’s any way, I would drive the harp, bench and harp cart and ship anything else she needs that won’t fit in the car (clothes, etc.) If she’s allowed a car on campus, then Dad can fly home. Or you can rent a van or SUV. The harp is your biggest investment and its safe transport should be the main consideration (after Dad and daughter!). It’s a lot less likely to need a regulation (or repair) if you drive it than if it’s shipped.
