ParticipantHey, Everyone! I finally bit the bullet and purchased a new L&H transport cover and base cover after many years of wear and tear on my original set. To put it simply, I HATE the base cover. I have a regular harp cart. When I put the harp on the cart and try to walk around to secure the strap, the harp just falls off the cart unless I have someone assist me. The cover does not appear to be too big for my cart. I think it is simply the material’s finish that is the problem.
Has anyone come up with a quick way to fix this? I have no need to purchase a new cart since my current cart is quite fine. I would love to add another strap but I can’t even strap the harp on now by myself. If I do have assistance, the harp is completely content on the cart once I strap it on but come on, not all of us are lucky to have harp movers at all gigs. I have started using my ghetto base cover again because at least there is some protection (but boy, those years of moving the harp in the snow and salt at Eastman really ate away at it!)
Thanks so much for your ideas!

ParticipantI just don’t use it, and have gone back to wrapping the base in a towel once it’s in the car.

ParticipantIt sounds to me like slippery cloth is your problem- can you get some cheap non-slip stuff, such as that sold for drawer lining and try that over the trolley.

ParticipantFor me it’s not the slippery cloth, but the big round slippery protusion on the bottom of the cover.

ParticipantI have this problem too and it is the shape of base cover. The harp slips off the dolly even when I am walking about the harp to fasten the strap and sometimes when I’m wheeling it around but it never happens if the base cover isn’t on it. I do use the cover but go very carefully and slowly and make absolutely sure that the harp is secure before letting it go even to fasten the belt. Would love to see a workable solution to this problem that doesn’t mean not using the base cover. i used to not use the base cover on

ParticipantUnfortunately, the slippery base cover isn’t just a Lyon & Healy problem.

ParticipantI was planning to buy a transport set, and I’m glad to be forewarned. Can you attach something rubbery to the bottom of the cover? What’s a ghetto cover?
Unlike some people, I always thought some wear and tear marks on a harp were badges of honor. A cosmetically perfect older harp looks suspicious to me. Like it wasn’t worth taking out of the house.

ParticipantI wish I could post a picture to show off my “ghetto” cover. LOL. It has multiple holes in it from wear and tear. Salt probably helped it along and weakened the material. It doesn’t look bad when the harp is in it until you put it in the car and you see the harp exposed through the BIG holes. I have tried patching but it doesn’t hold. I’m going to work on the rubber idea. Was thinking of a velcro piece attached to the cart and the other half to the cover just to add some resistance.

ParticipantHi, Saul. With my dolly, which is the kind which just goes under the back feet (similar to the McKay type), that doesn’t really help because the problem is the width of the curve of the plastic base piece behind where the feet are. It just pushes the harp too far forward on the dolly.

ParticipantI felt my harp wasn’t secure on the trolley with the new padded cover so I took the trolley to a car body shop and had a broader base welded on.
