I will be going to band camp for about 2+ weeks from the end of July to the beginning of August. I will be unable to take my harp because a) I’ll be working my butt off on flute with no time to practice my harp and b) I will be rooming with several other people and I don’t want to have to worry about my harp.

Your harp will be fine. Just cover it to keep the dust off. If you have pets or small children in the house, park it in a corner where it can’t be knocked over. Enjoy your camp!

I’m going on vacation in a few days. My cheap hydrometer shows above-average humidity and I’ve noticed that the wires have been going sharp. Should I loosen them a little before I leave?

You do realize you resurrected a 12 year old thread, right?

You don’t mention the type of harp, but above average humidity will slacken (and drop pitch) on both nylon and gut trebles, which leaves the wires more taut.

Does the house have humidity control? How much are they moving sharp? How long will you be away? Are you turning the air conditioning (or heat if you are in southern hemisphere!) entirely off?

If you want to slack off the whole harp half a semitone, it won’t hurt anything. It will just take some time to pull back up and settle in when you return.
