Doubting Girl
ParticipantSo this weekend I will be checking out the FH36S maple I tried a year ago and couldn’t forget. I’m a bit nervous ofcourse, because when I still love it, I’m going to lose quite some money 🙂 I do get to trade in my secondhand Crescendo I bought there.
So I would like to hear about the FH36S. Does it hurt that I only heard and played the maple in real life? When I listened to the mp3s on the Dusty Strings, I already liked the maple the most.
How is it with its size and weight? Do some people have problems with that?
FH36 owners, please do share!

ParticipantHi,
I have an FH36S in walnut and I love it! It was my first harp (built in 2005) and has the most gorgeous, mellow tone, even more so today. I don’t think that, as you say, it “hurt” that you only heard and played the maple one, since it sounds like that particular model’s tone has totally captivated you, and that’s what you want, when you have to make a selection. And, yes, sometimes the size and weight (mine weighs 25lbs.+ in the case) bugs me, but I’m used to it now, and still place the strap over my shoulder, and carry it here and there, without the use of a dolly. So go for it, you won’t regret getting a Dusty!

ParticipantNot an owner, but I laid hands on an FH36 in bubinga this past weekend and boy oh boy, was that a delicious harp. What a voice. What a beauty. What a price tag. (Darn it.)
So it’s the harp I’m *aspiring* to. 🙂

ParticipantBut in the meantime, tell us about your Crescendo. They didn’t have any of those at the shop I visited — how do you like yours? Tell us all about it. (One of those may be my stepping-stone to an FH36.)

ParticipantI have a 36S in bubinga, and played a friend’s maple 36S. Really, you can’t go wrong with either…both are gorgeous. The maple seemed to sound brighter than the bubinga, but both were beautiful. I think if you really liked the maple right away, you wouldnt have any regrets.
Some people feel the 36S is heavy (especially the bubinga), but I haven’t had any problems (may just be whatever you’re used to, or whether you have some physical limitations).

Participanthi there,
I picked the bubinga based on the recordings, I think it’s fine to choose that way.
