Hello, I am trying to find something smaller and more portable than my current grand concert harp for smaller gigs. Does anyone have an idea of the weight of an Erard Grecian harp or how it compares to other small pedal harps by way of weight?

An Erard Grecian is close to 200 years old and hardly qualifies as a gig harp. There are lots of modern models made by a variety of companies to choose from. You should be able to find something that meets your needs.

An Erard Grecian weighs between 41 and 42 lbs if it is equipped with swell doors, and about 1 1/2 lbs lighter without the swell doors.

Many thanks Howard; I was really hoping someone on here would know, as I have looked on the web and in books, but could find nothing about their weight.

    Ann:

I have a Stumpf Grecian, which is pretty much a clone of the Erards (Stumpf originally worked for Erard, before striking out on his own) — it has 44 strings, but per Mike Parker almost certainly originally had 43 (uppermost is an add-on with no disc mechanism).

I really agree with Carl here. The Grecian might be light, but it’s really an antique. What you’re suggesting is comparable to driving an original Ford Model T down the highway through commuter traffic to work every day. It’s just not appropriate.

I just have to know, how much does a Grecian urn?
