The West Point Band has appointed Staff Sergeant Mia Venezia principal harp. Venezia says she is grateful for the opportunity and for the support of her family, teachers, and mentors. “As a member of the West Point Band, I have the profound privilege of serving my country through music while connecting with communities through outreach and engagement,” Venezia says. “These experiences have deepened my relationship with music, adding new dimensions of purpose and fulfillment to my work as a musician. Being part of West Point’s community, where some of our nation’s best and brightest develop into future leaders, is both inspiring and rewarding. I feel truly fortunate to contribute to this mission.”

Born and raised in the Philadelphia suburbs, Venezia has held principal harp positions with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra and Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with ensembles including the Richmond Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Nashville Opera, New World Symphony, and New Haven Symphony. Venezia has served on the faculties of the Villa Maria Conservatory, Harp Quest Summer Live, and Harp Mastery. She earned her Master of Musical Arts degree from the Yale School of Music as an Irving S. Gilmore Fellow, after graduating with honors from Northwestern University and Carnegie Mellon University.
