I’m sure this has been addressed previously but am not adept at finding archived information on the web. Anyway, are there some harper fakebooks you all can recommend? Thanks, all!!

What is different about a “harper” fakebook from just a fakebook?

What are you looking for? A certain genre of tunes? Learning to play/improvise from lead sheet? What’s the goal of moving away from pieces specifically arranged for harp?

(Please don’t hear disapproval–I play often from lead sheet and can offer some suggestions, but this could go in several different directions.)

My goal for a fakebook is to find a resource for popular tunes in a variety of genres. I’m working through Harp for Healing and realize I have a lack of knowledge of many popular tunes as well as genres outside what I typically play (Celtic, bluegrass, string band music). Since this original post, Mary Stevens of Harp for Healing recommended a book for ukulele, which has a lot of material in it. I’m wondering if there are any others. Just having the melody line would suffice.

When you are doing that kind of playing, you need to be sensitive to the taste and desire of the patients and their families. Popular songs would seem very inappropriate to me unless they have a specific request.
