Hunter College, a public university in Manhattan, has announced a new fellowship for graduate-level harpists, which provides free tuition for two years of graduate study. The Mihi Cura Futuri Harp Fellowship begins in the fall of 2023. The fellowship is named for the Hunter College motto, Latin for “the care of the future is mine.” The college’s website states, “We believe the future is in the hands of our talented students.” Its academic areas in music include classical or jazz performance, music theory and history, ethnomusicology, and composition, as well as a graduate program in music education.
Ashley Jackson, assistant professor of harp at Hunter College, says, “We’re very excited about the opportunity, [which] is the first such opportunity to be offered at a CUNY [City University of New York] institution.”
