Dai-An Liu has been appointed principal harp of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, following her audition by video recording. She made her debut in November 2021 in Quito, Ecuador, as concerto soloist performing Claude Debussy’s Danses sacrée et profane in celebration of the 72nd anniversary of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador.
“I am very fortunate to land a job during the time of the pandemic, and I’m looking forward to being able to continue to play and perform,” Liu says. When asked what she’s looking forward to in her new position, Liu explains, “Since all of the orchestras in Ecuador are owned by the state, members of the orchestra sometimes get the opportunity to perform with orchestras in cities other than Quito. I’m hoping to get that opportunity while I am here and be able to explore more of the country.”
Liu is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and an alumna of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has studied with Shih-Chuan Huang, Chia-Yuan Liang, Kathleen Bride, and Ann Yeung.
