On Oct. 13, Anneleen Lenaerts was awarded an Opus Klassik in the category of “Classics Without Borders,” for her 2019 album, Nino Rota: Works for Harp. Out of 462 nominated works, a total of 45 awards were given by the jury. Formerly billed as the Echo Klassik Awards, the last harpist to receive this honor was Xavier de Maistre in 2008. During the awards ceremony at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Lenaerts performed Rota’s music from the Godfather films with orchestra, which was described by German classical music magazine Fono Forum as one of the “highlights” of the gala. Other artists honored this year included Joyce DiDonato, Lang Lang, and Paavo Järvi.

From 1997 until 2010, Lenaerts was awarded 23 prizes in many major competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition and the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition. In 2010 at the age of 23, she was selected as the principal harpist with the Vienna Philharmonic, only the eighth woman to join the orchestra. In addition to her album of music by Rota, she has released five other albums.
