MemberI can’t remember the last time I heard a song on the radio that I couldn’t get out of my head – one with a great melody that made me want to play it right away. What was the last song that got your attention?

MemberGretchen,
This REALLY isn’t the answer you are looking for I know, but the question made me laugh and here’s why. The last song I got in my head (while on vacation no less) was “Soft Kitty” from The Big Bang Theory! I saw a stuffed animal in a store and BOOM there it was . . . FOR ALL DAY!!! I was ready to bang my head against a wall.
Hmmmmm, wonder if it’s harp friendly???
Have a GREAT weekend,
Kay 😉

MemberClose enough, Kay. I just happened to be flipping through radio channels when I had this thought. Any inspiration of the last catchy song you heard will do.

MemberRight now I have this harp song that I’m working on in my head like 24/7, but for obvious reasons. Other than that, I listen to A LOT of Joanna Newsom and if you’re familiar with her, “In California” has been in my head ever since I went to CA to see my family last week 😛

MemberAlso, this is sort of related. I’ve had this song stuck in my head that I can’t figure out what it is. I know I learned it years ago on piano when I was a lot younger. I tried to pluck it out on harp (mostly just the right hand melody) but no ones been able to tell me what it is. Does anyone recognize it?

MemberTracey,
Is it “One Moment in Time”?

ParticipantIt’s not always songs you’re crazy about or might like to play on the harp that stick in your mind. For me one time it was Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs’ “Hey there, Little Red Riding Hood / You sure are looking good…” But as for playing on the harp, I’d prefer the Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffman.

MemberKay, I didn’t realize what song that was but I looked it up lol. No, its not that song though but I can definitely see the similarities.
Its some classical piece. I wish I had a piano so I could actually do it some justice or something. I could play it a lot better on piano than harp. I’m still new to harp lol.
Thanks for listening though 😛

Member@ Tracey Kjonegaard, it’s the Adagio from Pathetique Sonata by Beethoven. It’s fairly chromatic so I can imagine it’s difficult to pick out on harp. Suzanne Balderston had a nice arrangement of it but I don’t know if it’s still in print since she passed away.

MemberActually I had to look it up. You can still get Suzanne Balderston’s arrangements at http://www.harp.com
