Hi everybody,

I’ve recently been excepted into a school with a very competitive and progressive music department. My ensemble partner is a very advanced flutist, who, unforutnately due to jaw surgery, is unable to play until October, which gives me time to learn flute/harp repetoire.

Any ideas? Advice? Encouragment? I’m also in a Wind Ensemble (I’ll think I’ll be deaf by the end of the year from that…I’m sitting behind the trumpets, next to the tuba and in front of the percussionists!…), so really any advice would be great!

There are MILLIONS of works for flute and harp, but the nicest and best, I think, is the Casilda Fantasy by Franz Doppler and Antonio Zamara.

There’s a sontata by J.S. Bach for flute and continuo in E flat major that works very well on harp. A nice way to perform it is to have a ‘cello double the bass line.

The worrks by Hahn, Shankar and Persichetti are difficult for the flute,
but not for the harp.
I will send you the Omar Acosta’s 3 Pesetas (minds Three bagatelles).

Thanks a million, everyone, for your advice! (And sorry I spelled ‘accepted’ as ‘excepted’–it’s been a long week!)

I’m looking forward to researching and playing all the wonderful pieces you all have listed. I’m also looking forward to starting ensemble work! A new door is opening for me!
