I have been going to a very good ophthalmologist for almost two years, and after watching my cataracts grow cloudier and cloudier, she has decided that the time is right for surgery.

I do have the flexibility to have them done before or after two performance opportunities in the future, one in the middle of April, the other the beginning of May.

My question concerns how soon after surgery you all have been able to see music reasonably well. I can have my eyes done within the next two weeks (March 4 and March 18), then glasses 4-6 weeks after the surgery.

I would be able to have the surgery after the performances with no problem, but

would probably have to make very magnified copies of everything (one score is 150 pages long 🙁 )

At present, everything I see is either too small to read or surrounded by little shadows- not good for reading fingerings and pedal markings!

    Any thoughts or personal stories?

I have had both eyes done – about 2 years apart.

After the first surgery (March 4), I can see everything perfectly without glasses!

I will be having the second surgery March 18. While I will no doubt have additional changes, I feel fairly confident that I’ll be able to see what I need to for the performances.

I hope everyone who is dealing with this problem has the same result as I am having.
