Years ago I played a gig in a restaurant from 6:30 pm to 10 pm with two 15-minute breaks. Watch that you are seated on the front half of the stool. Take many sips of water. Use your breaks off of the harp to walk around, do yoga stretches, totally relax but with movement to improve your circulation, and add more potassium to your diet, apricots, bananas, etc. The “little” break needs to be a full fifteen minutes and you deserve every minute of it. Hope it goes away! If there is an MD on board, consult with him/her.

During the time you are NOT working, do lots of exercises, jogging, etc.

Note that “front half of the stool.” I had a reaction from playing not harp but guitar (classical). Sitting farther forward relieved it.

I don’t like many ‘proper harp benches’ they don’t have enough padding and when I sit high enough the sharp edge cuts across the thigh and cuts off circulation.

It’s important to have a soft throne to sit on. There most certainly not be anything that cuts off blood flow on the lower leg. 45 minutes should be the maximum of time on the harp bench or throne. This is my most humble contribution after fifty years of this sort of thing. Make sure you don’t have gout or are too physicaly exhausted, where you may have reduced sodium levels. Best Wishes!
