this forum sees a lot of activity, almost too much at times, of people trying to pick out their fist harp.

I agree Deb. It’s nice to feel we are all part of a community, no-one wants to feel they are being used for his / her advice alone, no matter what the question is about. I see that happen on other forums as well.

It would be nice to bring it full circle. I do wonder how these dilemmas are resolved. For all who present these questions I wonder how many are out there with the same or similar questions waiting for answers and what decisions were ultimately made…

Deb- Every time I read that title to this thread I chuckle. It sounds like the harps are disappearing.

I am in agreement Deb. It is nice to know what someone chose and if they are happy with the choice after the fact.

And Carl is right on. When I first read the thread title I was like, “What? Harps are disappearing? What?”

My decisions were made based on advice posted here. Blevins seems to be the best deal, for which recommendation I owe Zen Sojourner.

Ha ha!! I thought the same thing about the harps disappearing! A harp that shrunk and then got big again would be just as good….!

Before I rented, and then bought a used harp in 2007, I read this and several other “harp sites” to learn a as much as I could before getting a harp.

Or maybe the posters heard the advice then found something completely different to what the advice on here offered and they are happy with that. They might be afraid to come back and post about it for fear of being told they made the wrong choice.

Harpcolum is very pedal harp centric. Yes I know there are a lot of lever harpists on here, but the majority of discussion centres around pedal harps and music appropriate for that. If you are a straight folk harpist you probably want to hang out with other folk musicians, even if they are not harpists.

This forum is simply one of the few resources available for newbies to the harp world. I’m sure they don’t abandon the forum out of a desire to offend. They probably just don’t relate to the majority of the discussion on here, or feel intimidated by some of the posts.
