USAIHC Announces 5th Composition Contest Winner

Jeremiah Siochi is the winner of the USAIHC's 5th Solo Harp Composition Contest

The USA International Harp Competition (USAIHC) has named Jeremiah Siochi, of the U.S., winner of its 5th Solo Harp Composition Contest for his work Sublimation. The composition contest is held prior to the USAIHC’s triennial harp competition, which next takes place June 8–18, 2016, in Bloomington, Ind.

The contest drew 114 entries submitted by composers from 34 different countries, making it the largest contest to date, according to the organization. Siochi’s prize includes a $2,000 award funded by a grant from the American Harp Society, publication of Sublimation by Lyon & Healy, and required repertoire performances of the work during Stage III of the upcoming USA International Harp Competition.

Others placing in the final round were: Nuance by Shai Cohen (Haifa, Israel), stuck.in.magazine. by Monika Dalach (Lodz, Poland), Nightly Monologue II by Karen Keyhani (Tehran, Iran), Night by Phil Taylor (Pittsburgh, PA, USA), and Sons of Hypnos by Bora Uymaz (Istanbul, Turkey).

The jury for the contest included composer Hannah Lash (USA), and harpists Jana Boušková (Czech Republic), Ruth K. Inglefield, Jury Chair (USA), Karen Lindquist (USA), Sivan Magen (Israel), Şirin Pancaroğlu (Turkey), and Ayako Shinozaki (Japan).
