The USA International Harp Competition (USAIHC) is calling for scores for the 9th Ruth Inglefield Composition Contest. Composers of all nationalities and ages are invited to submit new unpublished works for solo harp, between six and eight minutes in duration. The USAIHC composition contest occurs every three years, prior to the performance competition.
The winning composer will receive the American Harp Society Prize in the amount of $2,000. The winning composition, selected by a panel of harpists plus one composer, will be included in the required repertoire for Stage III of the 14th USAIHC and published by Lyon & Healy Publications. The winning composer will also be invited to attend the Composition Forum and Awards Ceremony of the 14th USAIHC in June 2028, with travel and lodging funds provided.
Online applications for the 9th Ruth Inglefield Composition Contest will open Jan. 15, 2027. Applications and scores are due by Sept. 10, and a recording of the work must be submitted by Oct. 10. The winning composition will be announced Dec. 15.
The USAIHC Ruth Inglefield Composition Contest is named in honor of its director for the first six cycles, Ruth Inglefield, and her contributions to contemporary harp music. For application details and composition requirements, visit the USAIHC website.
