Note from the arranger
This lovely German folk song was not originally associated with Christmas as it predates the tradition (popularized in the 19th century) of decorating fir trees for the festive season. The first known lyrics used the symbolism of the evergreen fir to represent a faithful lover. As the custom of decorating trees spread in popularity, new lyrics were written and the song began to be associated with Christmas. It is now a popular seasonal favorite!
