About the composer
Manuel María Ponce Cuéllar (1882 – 1948) was an important Mexican composer. He was considered a musical prodigy who attracted attention early on with his compositions and piano playing. From 1904 he studied in Bologna, Berlin and Paris. In addition to numerous works for guitar and piano, Ponce created orchestral and chamber music pieces and is considered one of Mexico’s most important song composers. His compositional techniques here are characterized by the masterful use of melody and harmony, creating a feeling of depth and richness.
