Note from the arranger
Known in hymnals as “O come, O come Emmanuel”, Barnwell previously arranged this classic hymn tune for the Advent and Christmas season in a fairly straightforward manner. In this 2024 arrangement, he drew inspiration from the hymn’s medieval roots, as it was originally a Gregorian chant. This setting is comprised of three variations, each with a distinct flavor. It begins with an ancient, medieval style and progresses to a more contemporary feel, with classical elements incorporated along the way.
