Joy Slavens’ Sunrise is for solo lever or pedal harp. This lovely harp solo in C major has a fun eighth note pattern throughout. Section B goes into A minor with glissandos and a rubato tempo adding a dramatic flare. “Later in the piece,” Slavens says, “the sun has risen and has beautiful, full chords carrying the melody on top. Sunrise is to be played andante, at a flowing, leisurely pace.” This piece can be played as a set with the composer’s Sunset.
