Evolene, my practicing habits would probably horrify other harpists as well. I can let my harps (harps plural because I just bought a second) just sit for weeks if I don’t have any gigs coming up. That’s why I’m always offering to play for people (another reason to have a day job, I don’t often play for money). I’ve played for almost 30 years, but because it’s a hobby and I lack discipline, I would only consider myself an intermediate player.
Hi, Buck! The midwest is a pretty big area, so if you could give us a state I’m sure fellow harpists can point you in the right direction. Even if you’re not looking for a complete restoration, it might help to see someone who is familiar with antique harps. I’m in Michigan and found out that the guy that does most of the harp regulations around here also restores antique harps for major museums. I also learned from Charles that there’s a restorer in Ohio. And correct me if I’m wrong Charles, but wouldn’t the major harp manufacturers repair/restore instruments? Lyon and Healy and Venus are in Chicago. So, there are options.
Also, I would love to see photos if you can get them to attach.
Update. I called Erich and he said he doesn’t recall a crack in the column when he was there in 2013. He said they might not be disclosing everything, so he’s going over to look at it. I should have called him in the first place.
Sigh.. one more try. Though the seller said the crack was there when Erich looked it over in 2013 and said it’s in great condition.
Haha! I just saw your response Charles and somehow managed to answer you with my previous message. I do see a vertical crack in the top of the column. Do you think that’s a problem?
