Charles, it sounds like “layering” is what I’m wanting to do, for example, for a harp and cello duet, record myself playing the harp part on one track and then record myself playing the cello part on a second track and putting them together as the one piece. Thanks for the info on the Zoom recorders, I will look into them! Thanks again.

Charles, thanks for the info that Audacity is primarily for editing, I didn’t know much about it. What I’m interested in is multi-track recording. I teach yoga and facilitate meditation classes, and I want to record 2 or 3, or more, instruments to mix together into one piece. These would include harp, cello, percussion, keyboard, recorder, guitar, etc. The pieces would be New Age/meditative/relaxation style, and after I would have a few pieces of music I would like to burn them to a CD that I would hand out to the people that take my classes for them to use at home with their personal practice. The sound quality just needs to be decent/listenable, I wouldn’t need professional quality. Do you have any suggestions for a recorder that would not be too difficult to use and not too expensive, about $300 or less?

Hi Charles and Katia, thanks for the replies. Charles, the laptop I would use with Audacity has Windows 10. It sounds like Audacity might be a little dicey and possibly not necessarily worth the effort, with not very good sound quality. I’ll have to think about it before I have the program take up my computer space. Thanks again!

Thank you all for your responses! Wil, I took your advice and put the recorder in a cold place (a freezer, I don’t have a cellar) for about 2 hours. My husband had to use a strap tool that is used to wrap around jar lids to open jars to get a good grip, we let it sit for about 15 minutes and at first it wouldn’t move, but after a few minutes of trying it started to turn and he got it apart. Now he is going to try sanding the cork down to allow the pieces to go together so it can be put together and taken apart with proper ease. Just a few small scratches but no damage. And thank you Balfour and Charles for your help, also. I very much appreciate it.

Thank you, Charles. I agree playing with repeats again would be just long and boring, and anyone listening would be wondering when is it going to finally end?

Thank you Talfryn and Gretchen for the information, I don’t know anything about amplification equipment. It makes sense to me now, especially after seeing the picture of the Dusty Strings clamp.
Do I understand correctly: the Big Twin with the external jack connector doesn’t need the additional Dusty Strings clamp? And the external jack connector is just as good as the internal?
And does anyone have recommendations for an inexpensive amp? It would be used in smaller spaces, not any big concert areas.
    Thanks again!

I’m glad to learn about the K&K Big Twin pick-ups, it sounds like something I’ve been looking to find to amplify my Lyon & Healy Prelude harp. I have a couple of questions:
    1. the K&K website said the pick-ups come with adhesive film for attachment, so I’m wondering if the adhesive doesn’t work well and that’s why Talfryn drilled into the harp for attaching them
    2. what is the difference between the internal and external jack? Is one preferred over the other?
    Thanks for the info –
