I’ll give this a try. I wrote myself a note last time to try triplets this time, but I was using two hands in the RH register instead of picking up some LH.
Do you know whose edit this is? I’m surprised they didn’t keep the harmonic changes at the beginning of your bar 20, but maybe it all fits together well. Hard to judge without trying the whole thing in context. (My bar numbers are one off because I have a second ending on the opening repeat.)

I have a part but can’t send it electronically (no scanner). This is a beautiful piece and worth the work — but don’t underestimate it! As I recall, the harp often functions as solo accompaniment to the clarinet or bassoon, and is not really part of the string orchestra. I did lots o’ enharmonic pedalling on the first page to make the bisbigliando section work. (I have that section marked at quarter=63.) The only other tempo I have pencilled in is at rehearsal 22, quarter=100. But tempos can vary widely with performers, so listen to a few recordings for more guidance. Strauss is tricky…be as well-prepared as you can and good luck!
Hi Ellen, I had left hip replaced 12/18/12. Incision was from the side, so it was a longish recovery. I had nothing scheduled in January, but was fine for my first rehearsal in early Feb. I’m tall, so I sit quite high at the harp normally, and this was no problem in Jan. as I was getting back in shape. Pedalling restrictions may depend on which hip you’re having done. I think what you need to be most careful about is not the playing, but the packing up and moving & carrying your auxiliary stuff. (Don’t lean over to unzip your base cover! Don’t leave tuners or anything on the floor that you’ll have to bend down to reach, etc.)
Do your exercises religiously for a better long-term outcome. Best of luck!I just received my new Swanson harp covers and I’m thrilled! For years I’ve been lamenting the loss of canvas covers with TIES — they were always the best, but haven’t been available for a very long time.
The fit is perfect on my three concert grands (a L&H Style 30, a Swanson La Scuola and a Swanson Empire) and the seaming is beautifully finished inside — a nice surprise.
My mover tested it out last night (I live in a third-floor walk-up, and he carries the harp down to my car — and back up). I thought he might be unhappy there wasn’t a slot behind the body, but he said it was no problem — the fabric is flexible enough to get a firm hold on the harp right through it. He said “This is really nice!”
The ties are well-placed and the cover overlaps a couple of inches, so it doesn’t fly open in the wind; also, the lap is sewn shut near the crown, so there’s no worry of a gap there either.
Best of all, they fold up small and don’t weigh a ton! Thank you, Carl!
