My teacher gave me a good advise that works wonderful. When one handed chords are fine and the other handed chords don’t, then play them with two

My teacher has had a masterclass with Vera Dulova and she has learned me this movement of the thumb. I really like it this way, because it feels and sounds much better than the French way.

I’m very interested in the Russian School because there is a great emphasis on good sound production. About a month ago I have ordered the Russian books of Alla Yashneva (I’ve found this on this threat) and I like them very much. Alla has told me that in Russia they work with Grossi and Bochsa too.

I would like to know whether there are other method books concerning the Russian School in English, French, German or Dutch. I cannot find them. I hope there’s someone you can give me this information.

I’m addicted too. I have learned so much of this forum (including the magazine)

I have a Chicago Petit (40 strings) for almost a year now. Before that I have rented a Prelude. I love the size of the Chicago Petit. Although the sound of larger harps is (a bit) warmer, I prefer the “little” one I have; it is not too big and the sound is wonderful. I know that I cannot play all the music because I don’t have 47 strings on my harp, but my teacher told me we can change that particular sheet music

in reply to: For all those who keep asking, “Am I too old?” #83500

I am 55 years old and I play the harp for almost 2 years now. It is really a dream that is coming true. I dreamed of playing a harp since I was 10 years old, but unfortunately there was no teacher nearby. So I began to pay clavecin, piano and guitar. Two years ago there was a harp concert in our village. I said to my husband: “That is what I always wanted to do: playing a harp”. He said to me: “How long do you want to wait to try it?” So I have been started playing the harp and I love it. It’s really a passion. Now I dream of playing better, playing with other people, playing by ear, playing blues, etc., etc.

I love this forum for sharing this passion with others and I learn a lot. Thanks all of you!

Since many years I have to deal with the results of a burnout; it effects my energy level a lot. I play harp for more than a year now and every time I play the harp I feel a bit better and it seams to give me a kind of energy. It doesn’t matter whether I play nice music or doing exercises…………Perhaps it’s not only the music itself but also the vibration of the harp on your body………(heart/head).

in reply to: Wires strings–preferences? #74292

I have a Lyon & Healy Chicago Petit since 2 month. I love the harp because of the sound, the look, the feel and the size. There is only one thing I don’t like so much: the difference between the (great) sound of the gut strings and the sound of the wire strings. I know it is not possible to change the wire strings by gut strings. Could anybody please tell me if there is a possibility to change the wire strings by strings with a

in reply to: String Question #74351

    Phylllis,

I am glad you have “tried every brand of harp string available”. Since 2 months I have a L&H Chicago 40 and I am very happy with this harp: the sound, the size, the feel etc. There is just one thing that I don’t like so much: the difference in sound between the gut strings and the wire strings. The gut strings are wonderful (Bow Brand), but the resonance of the wire strings is not so good. Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks, Edith
