ParticipantI just went to Guitar Center and was told by two employees that it would be foolish to purchase a guitar amp for a harp. They both suggested that I need an amp made for pianos/drums. They didn’t have a Crate limo or a Crate Taxi or any Fishman Amps on display.
Everyone has suggested I go to a guitar store and try their amps but 3 stores later, I am out of options and have yet to see a Crate or Fishman in person. But they do have a lot of Peaveys!
Any thoughts on this?
Christine, who is more confused after leaving Guitar Center!christine-weatherford
ParticipantThank you for sharing this wonderful review Janet!

ParticipantWow you guys are great! Since I only play solo, I think I will go with the Dusty Strings P30 pickup. I am not going to drill into my harp, I am just going to attach the pickup underneath the base of my harp. If I become a successful gigging harpist one day then I would be temped to invest in an electro acoustic Camac pedal harp. Until now, I have to work with what I have.
Natalie-thank you for the suggestion to order DHC’s Guide to Amplification. I had forgotten about that after seeing it years ago.
I really appreciate everyone’s lengthy comments, what a great community to belong to!
My next project is to find an amp. I am strongly considering the Fishman Mini Loudbox, per DHC’s recommendation. If she is recommending it, then I probably can’t go wrong 😉
Thank you SO MUCH!!!!

ParticipantWow are you going to post your recording on YouTube? I would love to hear it! I love playing rock and pop music and I just feel that it will sound different/better on an electric harp vs pedal harp. Do you agree Katie?
christine-weatherford
ParticipantKatie I am planning to order a DHC 32 and I am going to get a case from Blue Heron Cases here in the US. That might be an option for you. Could you please tell me where you found a stand other than ordering from Camac?
Also how do you like the DHC? I see you play a pedal harp as well. Do you find it difficult to transition between the two? What do you think about the tension of the DHC?christine-weatherford
ParticipantKatie would you say the tension is as light as a nylon strung harp? I know that is hard to determine considering every maker has a slightly different tension but I am just trying to get an idea since I can’t get my hands on a DHC Light.
christine-weatherford
ParticipantWow I didn’t think the Savarez strings would have lighter considerably lighter tension than lever gut. The light tension will be something I will have to take into consideration while debating on the DHC Light and the Silhouette. Amazing that you haven’t broke a string for 2 years Katie! I am jealous!!!

ParticipantI own a Venus, as well as my harp teacher. She has had her Venus for over 30 years and this harp has been put through the ringers (she gigs a lot!), the harp has lived everywhere from the desert climate (Southern California) to the humid mid west and the harp is still going strong. We both love our Venus harps and wouldn’t trade them for the world. If you get a chance to visit them, I highly recommend you do so, then you can try Venus and L&H and see which one feels right for you.

ParticipantSounds like the Camacs might be more durable! Thanks for letting me know!

ParticipantDoes anyone know what the Silhouette harp is made of? I know the new Camacs are carbon fiber but I can’t find any details on Lyon Healy’s website.
christine-weatherford
ParticipantYes Deb, the Silhouette is strung with lever gut strings and the DHC Light has Fluorocarbon. The new Camacs are so scarce and with them being made in France it is hard to find them in any showroom to test drive. I have read glowing reviews on both harps which is great but makes my decision more difficult. I love watching Catrin Finch play her Silhouette as much as Deborah Henson-Conant play her Blue Light.
christine-weatherford
ParticipantSo Deb with what you are saying about Salvarez strings then that should make the Camac DHC light a much lighter tension than the gut strung L&H Silhouette?
christine-weatherford
ParticipantIt is such a difficult decision when I won’t be able to play both, especially side by side. I am appreciating all the feedback and welcome anyone else’s suggestions!!!
christine-weatherford
ParticipantAlso Jerusha, I notice that your Silhouette had lever gut strings? Could you please tell me why you chose those strings? Or were those standard?
christine-weatherford
ParticipantJerusha, would you mind telling me about your Silhouette? I was eyeing it before it sold, I only discovered the ad in April. I am strongly considering the Silhouette or the Camac DHC Lite (which has fluorocarbon strings). I am concerned about the tension of the L&H, and I have read that some feel the stand is wobbly (I would play mostly with the harp on the stand), and the bass is not as clear as the DHC. The L&H is cheaper by $1200 which will help me convince my husband that I need another harp 😉
