ParticipantWow, Mae, what a saga! As a double-strung specialist (but definitely *not* a builder), I’m so glad that I found this discussion after returning to Harp Column. Once you have your wonderful harp completed, I can’t wait to see & hear it here.
A quick promotional note: my beginning method for double-strung harp, “Make Mine a Double,” is available as a PDF (with optional MP3 tracks); no overseas shipping worries! You can learn more about it, including the table of contents, at store.cynthiashelhart.com And please let me know if I can help with anything in the Double Department!

ParticipantHi Mae, and all,
I think all of us would just be happy to see/hear a video of you playing arpeggios/chords, etc. on that beautiful new harp. We are not expecting Yolanda K. or anybody like that, ha, ha! You have nothing to fear–we love you!
Sincerely,

ParticipantHi Allison, by now you may have been able to enjoy starting the finishing of your double Stoney End Brittany. I do hope the ‘in the white’ harp arrived at your home in good order and looks gorgeous.
I read above that your harp was to arrive this Tuesday and now it is Friday. So, please, share your first experiences with (and hopefully, some photo’s of) this special little harp.

ParticipantHi Wil,
You’re right, I’ve got the harp now. I haven’t had a chance to get any work done with it yet, as it has been a crazy week and I’ve had other projects I needed to finish first. It’s calling me, though! Once I get through the hours of sanding, I’m looking forward to decorating and finishing it. 🙂 The wood (cherry) looks great, and has some really nice curly grain on the neck.
Anyway, I’ll get on it as soon as I can!May 15, 2015 at 10:40 pm #187855balfour-knight
ParticipantHi, Wil and Allison!
Wil, you were so good to remember that Allison’s harp was due! I have been so busy, I forgot. I love cherry wood–in high school, I designed and built a harpsichord out of cherry. My dad and I had cut down a cherry tree which grew too near our house, so, we were able to dry and use some of that actual tree in the harpsichord, along with other cherry lumber I bought. One of my dear younger cousins in Texas has the harpsichord, now, and really enjoys playing it!
Best to all of you,

ParticipantMae? Do you get an email if we comment in this thread? We miss you! How is your harp?

MemberAnother late but fascinated reader hoping for a video! I’ve found a source of nylon wound strings in Europe, I think, at Optima Strings. How do they look to folk? They cover an octave and a half.

ParticipantHi Mae, could you provide a link to a soundclip of your very special double harp?
