    Hi Barbara,
Is Folk Harp Journal available by subscription only, or can you obtain single issues (paper, pdf, etc.)? Also, do they have back issues?

Hi, Sherri. I think you need to be a member of the folk harp society to get the current issues. They do have a link saying to email Jerry Brown (at Musicmakers) for back issues, but I don’t know if that’s only for members, too.

You might check academic libraries in your area. Some of them subscribe, even if there’s no folk harp program or folk music program of any kind at the college or whatever.

I use a mic called Yeti Blue Pro. It’s around $250 on Amazon and it works great! You have to use a USB port to power it butI’m trying to figure out a mobile power source so you can rocord anywhere.

Hi, Ricky. I have and am very pleased with the Yeti also, but the fact that it requires power in recent versions of iOS is a drawback for many people. I liked the whole situation so much better before Apple throttled down the amount of power a connected device could draw.

I bought the iRig mic and so far am really happy with it. I guess one way to deal with the power draw problem (which I hadn’t thought of before but thanks for bringing that up), might be to keep the iPad plugged in to the charger while you’re using it. Assuming that you’ve got access to an outlet, of course.

If you’re really on the road a lot maybe there’s a car charger you could get to recharge the lithium battery. I have one for my cell phone but don’t use it that much.

Hi, Sherri. Actually that won’t make a difference. It’s not an actual problem–things like the Blue worked just dandy in early versions of iOS, but then about iOS 4 Apple changed it so that you couldn’t run most things just by using the USB part of the camera connection kit to connect things. It doesn’t matter how much power a device actually draws–if the iPad can detect something pulling power from the device via the USB only, it shuts it down. So it doesn’t matter whether or not the iPad itself is plugged in, unfortunately. What you suggest is logical, but Apple doesn’t always waste time on logic. 🙂

You can use a powered usb hub and that works, but the power cord limits where you and/or the mic can be.
