The Great Falls (Mont.) Symphony has appointed Ellie Yamanaka principal harp, following auditions held this spring. “I’m excited for the opportunity of making music with a new community of musicians building new meaningful connections,” Yamanaka says.
A freelance harpist from Seattle, Washington, Yamanaka earned her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, and then returned to Seattle. She has performed with ensembles around the state of Washington as an acoustic and electric harpist, including with orchestras, folk orchestras, opera and theater productions, and choral groups. She is currently principal harp of Everett Philharmonic and the Great Falls Symphony, and a member of The Sound Ensemble.
Yamanaka also works in environmental conservation, as the Communications Manager at Birds Connect Seattle, and whenever possible curates her creative output with a desire to create experiences that bring together music and environmentalism.
