Marguerite Lynn Williams joined the faculty at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music in Jan. 2018. She succeeds Elizabeth Cifani, who retired at the end of 2017 after 36 years of teaching at Northwestern. Williams is also on faculty at Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and previously taught at the University of Miami Frost School of Music from 2006 until 2008. “I am delighted and honored to join the distinguished faculty at the Bienen School of Music,” says Williams. “I look forward to continuing the strong harp department built by Ms. Cifani, sharing my passion for the harp with each of the students, and guiding them towards successful careers in the music industry.”

In addition to teaching, Williams has been the principal harpist with the Lyric Opera of Chicago since 2011 and is founder of both the Chicago Harp Quartet and the Chicago Harp Ensemble. She has arranged two volumes of harp ensemble music and has released nearly 100 other arrangements and original compositions through her publishing house Harp Press. She received a Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Kathleen Bride, and a Master of Music degree from Roosevelt University, where she studied with Sarah Bullen.
