The Sarasota Orchestra has appointed Phoebe Powell as its new principal harpist, beginning in the 2023–2024 season. Powell was previously principal harpist of the New World Symphony.
Powell says of her appointment, “I’m so thrilled to be joining the Sarasota Orchestra as their principal harpist this season! Sarasota has such a rich arts scene and I’m looking forward to contributing to the community. The orchestra has been so kind and welcoming and I cannot wait to get to work with such a distinguished group of musicians.”
Powell’s orchestral experience includes performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and National Arts Centre Orchestra. Powell holds a Bachelor of Music degree and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Judy Loman and Heidi Bearcroft.
