Oberlin launches concert series featuring Yolanda Kondonassis

April 13, 2020

On April 14, Oberlin Conservatory will launch “Stage Left,” a concert series streamed at oberlin.edu. First on the lineup is Yolanda Kondonassis’ 2016 performance of the Ginastera Harp Concerto with the Oberlin Orchestra. The concert will begin with an interview between Kondonassis and William Quillen, the dean of Oberlin, where they talk about Ginastera’s life and Kondonassis’ career on the stage.

Kondonassis has performed the work nearly 200 times, and her recording with conductor Raphael Jiménez and the conservatory’s orchestra has been praised by Gramophone for its “affectionate detail.” The concert will be streamed at 7:30 pm ET on the 14th and will be followed by a discussion with rock music biographer Peter Carlin on April 16, a screening of a documentary about performance anxiety on April 19, and the recorded premiere of Bernard Rands’ Concerto for English Horn and Orchestra on April 23. Other events will be added weekly.
