The Las Vegas Philharmonic has appointed Costa Rican harpist María Paula Loría to its principal harp position. Loría says she is grateful for her new appointment and the opportunities it presents. “I am looking forward to playing fun and beautiful repertoire with this great ensemble and being able to share music with my community and represent harpists from Latin America,” she says. “There is so much amazing music for this season and I am very excited.”
A two-time honoree of the Sphinx Orchestral Partners Auditions (SOPA) competition, Loría has performed with various ensembles in the United States and is currently pursuing her DMA at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She began her studies in Costa Rica and continued at Columbus State University and Frost School of Music.
